Bighorn Fire 2020-06-21

I took a ride today to go all the way around the Santa Catalina mountains to take a look at the fire from each side. I went counter-clockwise heading first through the city and out Redington Road.

It was probably the best ride I’ve been on since it had everything from highway to rocky trail but it didn’t yield a lot of information about the fire.

I started out at about 5:00 am looking along the purple arrow shown here toward where the smoke was thickest. I think it was coming from Ventana Canyon.
Here I was on Sunrise Drive.
Ventana Canyon is thick with smoke.
On Redington Road at one of the first staging areas.
I’m mostly through Redington Pass area by now.
You can see Mount Lemmon off in the distance above my handlebars.
On a trail I took to head toward the Catalinas a little more.
Getting closer to San Manuel. I was trying to get a sense of how far it was between the fire and San Manuel.
Just outside of Dan Manuel now.
Outside the San Manuel airport.
Headed toward Oracle now.
Leaving Catalina and headed to Oro Valley.
