Duke holds his rope and feels like he’s being peeped at through the hole in the ceiling of the theater. He looks but he can’t see again, just like the other time this happened either before or after this time. Duke likes to think he’s being watched. It makes him feel like he has a purpose. It affects his actions. When someone is being watched they can’t act the same as when they are not being watched. Duke doesn’t put lotion on his skin. He hasn’t got skin. He’s made of clothes. The old sweatshirt is his skin. Duke is made of Arthur’s skin. Arthur so loved the theater that he gave his skin to make clothes for Duke. Or he gave his clothes to make skin for Duke. Rope ties things together. Duke likes to keep his rope close at hand because he might need it. You can climb with a rope or use it to hold on. You can bind things with a rope. You can bind people. Arthur bound people and they gave him this rope to thank him for it.
