Oh awesome! That store was so nice I almost went out of my mind. I’d never been in there. I have spent very little time in Flagstaff. I loved that store and Flagstaff. Do you work in there?
I am so happy that the hair ties that end up on the ground are being turned into art because losing hair ties is a perplexing part of being a long haired person. How do they get out of the control of their human? Do they fall right out of the hair? I think not; that would be detected. I think they sneak out of pockets and bags and zippered pouches when their humans are distracted. I think they feel unappreciated for all the urgently crucial hair-holding they do and they crave adventure.
It’s a real mystery. I don’t understand it. They’re all over the world. I feel like when I had long hair, if my hair tie fell out, which it never did, I’d notice right away and want to pick it up. I had it in for a reason. But eighteen years of photographing hair ties has shown me that the supply never ends.

They are definitely sneaking out of unsecured enclosures…
Haha yeah they have a whole world of their own. I can’t crack it.
