Duke dreams of going into Arthur’s world with a Cream-O-Land crown and a rope for climbing. The texture of Duke’s back is different than the texture of his front, because Arthur made a mistake when he created Duke. And Duke’s front ended up with a big seam down the middle like a handsome aquiline nose. But because of that seam Duke ended up with two face parts, which is not something you see every day. In his imagination Duke explores Arthur’s world. Duke doesn’t care that he has a seam down his face. The thing that bothers him is when someone moves his lemon or his apple. Lord Duck moves the lemon and the apple. And Lord duck will have moved the coffee filter also by getting his head stuck in it. And Duke knows Lord Duck makes a shadow. And Duke himself makes a shadow. So the shadows of things aren’t the real things but you can learn about the real things from their shadows. That’s what a theater is. It’s a box where the shadows of things show you something about what’s casting them. Duke lives in a theater. He learns about Arthur’s world through shadows, and Duke is a shadow projected by Arthur. And sometimes the shadow of a thing looks nothing like the thing, and tells you nothing about the thing, if the light isn’t right, or the angle.
